Based somewhat on the harmonic styling of Crosby, Stlls, Nash & Young, America
scored initial success with "A Horse With No Name" in 1972. Although only a number
3 in the U.K., they hit the top spot in the U.S. Ten more top 40 hits in the U.S.
followed and it was obvious they had found their market.
George Martin was brought in to produce in 1974 but the hits stopped coming and
Peek quit for a solo career on a Christian label in 1977.
The remaining duo signed to a new label, Capitol; got a new writer/producer, Russ
Ballard (ex-Argent), and bounced back in 1982 with a top ten hit in the U.S. They
concentrated on touring, clocking up 150+ dates a year and sessions for everyone
from The Beach Boys to The Simpsons but never re-captured the success of the
seventies.

of time they were on them.

Green, 1968; Lonely Side of the City, 1968.
