Born Leslie Sebastian Charles, 21st January 1950 in Trinidad.
Vocals.
Brought up in the east end of London after his parents had emigrated there. He sang with a variety of local groups during the late sixties and early seventies. During that period he recorded under a variety of names - Joshua for Louvigny-Marquee; Les Charles for Spark; Scorched Earth for Youngblood - before being signed to GTO and renaming himself Billy Ocean.
Went on to become the most successful soul singer based in Britain.
